ephemeral stream invites a contemplation of gifts from forests, of the Sunshine Coast, BC a region experiencing drought from climate change and destruction of habitat from unsustainable logging. Ephemeral stream is a biological term referring to a stream that exists after rain or snow melt but is otherwise dry. These temporary streams are important for habitat. The artwork ephemeral stream is an intervention consisting of a set of carved signs and hand-dyed ribbons functioning as love letters to the forest and laments for unsustainable logging.

ephemeral stream responds to two sites located across a logging road from each other; an intact forest, and a 20 yr old clear cut. The ribbons guide the visitors along paths where the signs are displayed. Within the intact forest, signs are positioned along elk path and point out features and ecological activity. In the clear cut side, signs invite a contemplation of the destruction of the ephemeral stream and what this means for plant and animal life who live there.

The works are made from natural materials that will decay and compost over time.
